Travelling Turn (CCW, Starting on S5) in Detail sn0126, Rev 1 (2009/03/08)

FIRST METHOD
  • The first method is the one most often taught at Salsa classes. The notes that follow directly, apply to both methods.
  • Only Follower's footwork is shown.
  • All the turns flow into each other. Do not stop at the end of one turn to start the next turn.
  • As a guide Follower's feet are approx. 4" (10cm) apart while they are turning.
  • These are general instructions on how to do a CCW Travelling Turn. Some details may change depending on the relevant move. For instance, the angle of turn on a particular step may have to increase or decrease.

S5) Follower steps forward onto their left foot.

S6) Travelling Turn start:

Follower turns 180° CCW pivoted on the ball of their left foot, while Follower steps in the 'direction of travel' onto the ball of their right foot.

S7) Follower turns 180° CCW pivoted on the ball of their right foot, while Follower steps 'in the direction of travel' onto the ball of their left foot.

S8) Follower turns 180° CCW pivoted on the ball of their left foot, while stepping in the 'direction of travel' onto the ball of their right foot.

SECOND METHOD
  • The second method makes it easier to use the Spotting technique.

S5) Follower steps forward onto their left foot. This step precedes the Travelling Turn.

S6) Travelling Turn start:

Follower turns 90° CCW pivoted on the ball of their left foot. This step ends with Follower's torso facing left to the 'direction of travel', and Follower's left foot pointing rearward. Follower Spots on Lead's face.

S7) Follower turns 180° CCW pivoted on the ball of their right foot. This step ends with Follower's torso facing right to the 'direction of travel', and Follower's left foot pointing rearward. Follower Spots on Lead's face.

S8) Follower turns 270° CCW pivoted on the ball of their left foot while stepping in the 'direction of travel' with their right foot. Follower's right foot hovers over the ground.
