Welcome

This website contains over 100 charts of Salsa moves (sometimes called steps, figures or patterns). Each move is explained step by step with instructions and diagrams.

The moves are mostly New York and L.A. (Cross Body Lead) style. The rest are Columbian and Cuban style.

About SalsaNotes

step 5 of Outside Turn

I make notes on Salsa moves and techniques because when I first started going to Salsa classes I couldn't remember what I had learnt from one week's Salsa lesson to the next. I know other people have the same problem so I improved some of the notes and have made them available to everyone on this website. I am not a Salsa expert but I hope you find these notes useful. Please read the Terms and Conditions.

The Table of Contents should be the first place to go but that is quite large and confusing when seen for the first time. So here is a guide to help you through the complexity.

First, to understand the charts properly, you will need to know the Conventions used in them. And to dance safely you should read the Safety Notes.

I suggest beginners start at the Beginner's Tutorial. There is also an Improver's Tutorial and an Intermediate's Tutorial.

The best way to learn or re-learn Salsa moves is to try a routine from one of these: Beginner's Routines, Improver's Routines, Intermediate's Routines.

To make up your own routines go to the Resource of Salsa Moves. Find the section for moves starting in Closed Hold (or Open Hold) then click on the move you want to start with. Links at the bottom of each move's chart help you choose the next move.

Always use the tutorials, moves and routines that are at an appropriate level for your abilities.

If you find any safety issues in these notes then please Contact Us about them immediatly.

Good luck,

Richard Pringle
